ONR Analysis Support

The Office of Naval Research Innovative Naval Prototype (INP) program identifies technologies with the potential of a “game changing” leap in capability. The T-Craft is an INP project to develop a high speed craft capable of transporting tracked and wheeled vehicles from the seabase to the beach. The Ranger Group has been tasked by ONR to conduct an analysis of those operational characteristics most needed by commanders in the T-Craft.

  • The Ranger Group developed a series of operational scenarios for employment of the T-Craft, ranging from major amphibious operations to humanitarian assistance.
  • After developing hypotheses related to the operational performance of the T-Craft in theses scenarios, The Ranger Group has been using modeling and simulation to evaluate the effectiveness of alternative T-Craft capabilities and employment.
  • Results of this analysis are being used by ONR in establishing evaluation criteria for eventual construction of a T-Craft prototype.

Mike Abler developed scenarios and metrics to evaluate T-Craft operational utility.

Using the Extend® modeling toolkit, Castle Phelps generated data representative of the performance of the T-Craft in the scenarios.
